Creating GL Codes

GL codes can be defined to include codes for the Company, Division, Department, Location and Element in any order using the GL Codes tab in Company Maintenance.

In this way each element can be reported across different aspects of the business.

The maximum length of a GL code is 16 so, if you are going to add other business entities to the GL code format, the element length must be reduced.

To add a business entity to the GL Code Format select a business entity from the left hand frame with a left click which will highlight the GL Category selected and then left click the single right hand arrow.

This will move that business entity to the right hand frame with a default length of 1.

Left clicking the double arrow will move all the business entities to the right hand frame.

The order of the entities can be changed by selecting an entity in the right hand frame and left clicking the up or down arrows.

Changing the length of a category determines how many characters can be ascribed to that category when creating the business entities in Company>Division/Department/Location/GL Codes.

If the Company entity is selected then the GL code for the company needs to be entered. The number of characters allowed is determined by the length specified.
